We’ve talked before at length about how cars are rated for their safety, but in short, an independent body called Euro NCAP exists to put each car through its paces as it comes onto the market. They do this through a series of crash tests that keep as close to real life as possible, using crash dummies with sensors fitted to them. 

The results of these tests enable the cars to receive a 5-star rating, with 5 suggesting that the car provides excellent protection in the event of an accident, and 1 signifying that the car only provides the safety features required for it to be legally manufactured and sold. 

What safety features to look for in a family car 

Whilst each manufacturer is obligated to make sure each model is safe to be travelled in, there are some advances in in-car safety technology that it’s good to look out for if you’re buying a family car. Reversing Camera
