Top Tech: Our Favourite Infotainment Systems

As weā€™ve come to spend more time in our cars, weā€™ve come to expect more from them; both in terms of convenience, and keeping us connected. In response to this demand, major manufacturers have developed systems within our vehicles that round up all this functionality into a place where itā€™s all just a few clicks or touches away. Called ā€˜infotainmentā€™ systems as a clever combination of information and entertainment, they generally allow you to manage music, communication, navigation and settings all in one place.

At West Motors, we often see how these infotainment systems can seal a deal; here are some of our favourites…

BMW iDrive

Accessing driving settings, music, climate control and communication is made a dream by the BMW iDrive technology, all accessible through a touchscreen. Later models also include voice control, allowing you to switch between playlists and get directions, for example. This is known as the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and is your new onboard best friend when you find yourself with iDrive 7 or later.

Audi MMI

Short for Multimedia Interface, the Audi system controls music, communication, and navigation, as youā€™d expect. It does, however, do this over two screens; one in the centre console, and one behind the steering wheel, minimising the time you take your eyes off the road. You can control the system by operating a click wheel, using a laptop-style touchpad, or your voice for ultimate convenience.

Mazda Connect

Mazda adds the personal touch with Mazda Connect, prioritising all your favourites; your favourite destinations, favourite radio stations, and favourite contacts. A widescreen display allows you to interact with your fingertips, and their intuitive interface stays one step ahead.

Ford Sync-3

We couldnā€™t talk about infotainment systems without mentioning one of the front runners; the Ford Sync. Since 2007 the Ford Sync has evolved with clean graphics and an easy-to-use interface, making it simple to make a hands-free call or access your music.

Mercedes-Benz MBUX

Several different style settings that users can choose between make the Mercedes infotainment system customisable, making you feel like you can really make your car your own. The system responds to touch, voice commands, and in some cases even gestures, keeping your attention on the road.

Land Rover InControl

Youā€™d expect a brand like Land Rover to come up with an infotainment system that really looks after you, and they donā€™t disappoint. It works from its own onboard, WiFi-connected computer, and controls music and navigation, as well as more complex settings like security. All of this is displayed on an 8ā€ or 10ā€ touchscreen.
